University of Birmingham Automates Regulatory Reporting for HESA Staff Returns

The University makes it quicker and easier to submit HESA Staff Returns using cutting-edge Namos technology

(London, UK) 11th July 2022 – Namos Solutions, a leading Systems Integrator and Managed Service provider of Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Cloud Applications, announced today that its client, the University of Birmingham, has implemented Namos’ innovative cloud-based technology in time for the submission of the University’s next Staff Return to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).

HESA is the UK’s official agency for collecting, analysing, and disseminating quantitative data on higher education. Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are required by law to submit data on students, staff and finance to HESA on an annual basis. The information gathered through the HESA return is used to develop funding, performance indicators, and league tables.  HEIs are required to submit one annual return at the end of each fiscal year, which takes a significant amount of time and effort to compile and correct data retrospectively.

The University of Birmingham, a member of the prestigious Russell Group and one of the top 100 universities in the world (ranked 90th in the QS World University Rankings 2022), and 14th among UK universities, will ensure a significantly faster and easier return of accurate staff data to HESA by implementing the solution.

The application, built and deployed on Oracle Cloud infrastructure, will seamlessly collate, model, validate, and extract all necessary data in HESA-compliant format in minutes, saving the university days, if not weeks, of manual work.

Dr Dave Radcliffe, Head of Policy, Funding & Regulation said, “Working with Namos, we’ve delivered an entire project. The team is confident that we’ll deliver valid HESA data much more efficiently, and effectively now. At the same time, we’ve reduced many of our risks of accrued technical debt, seen the product grow and develop, and worked successfully with the support of Namos.”

Richard Clayton, Managed Services Director and HE Lead at Namos Solutions said, “It has been a pleasure to work with University of Birmingham and deliver such a great collaborative outcome. While the Namos HESA Staff application has already supported many on-time submissions outside of University of Birmingham, receiving input from even more HESA HE subject matter experts has been fantastic. It has resulted in a world-class application that I am confident will add value to University of Birmingham and others for years to come.”
