Among all the features that were released in 23C quarterly update in environments from August 2023, the following features will bring some breather to implementers for Absence Management. This blog is aimed at providing an insight into the operational requirements that these enhancements can bring to your Absence Management Operations.
In this Blog, for each update we’ll give the original Operational Requirement and follow it up with an explanation of the Release Solution.
Core HCM Enhancements – Absence Management
Operational Requirement – Absence Planning for Managers
This new Feature in 23 C is very beneficial for Line managers. The Absence Planning page ensures that Managers can Review absence requests that need approval, view current and future absences of all direct reports, Approve or Deny absence requests, Analyse the leaves between reports and hence it is very beneficial for Workday planning and for cover if there are coinciding absences within reports. They can also view multiple absence requests and scheduled absences.
23C Release Solution: Line managers can now use the Absence Planning page to review absences related to absence types with accrual or compensatory plans for all their direct reports. There will be an Absence Planning page under MyTeam.
Point to consider: Managers can’t approve the absence requests added using timecards on the Absence Planning page. This is Absence Planning view page only.
A Duty role need to be added to the Line managers:
Duty Role | Duty Role Code | Role |
Plan Absences by Manager | ORA_ANC_PLAN_ABSENCES_BY_MANAGER | Line Manager |

Operational Requirements – Automatic Accrual Re-calculation with Enrolment End Date
In a real business scenario or day-to-day business processes, there will always be a need to adjust accrual balances and after adjustment, we will have to run accruals to view the balance. But with the current 23C release enhancement, its very beneficial to customers that now it automatically recalculates accruals when you perform a manual adjustment to the enrolment end date.
23C Release Solution – In 23 C The application now automatically recalculates accruals when you perform a manual adjustment to the enrolment end date. When you manually perform a plan unenrolment and accruals have already been calculated to the end of the period, the accruals are automatically rerun until the unenrolment date. You don’t need to manually run the accrual process.
Operational Requirements – Redwood Experience for Existing Absences
Existing Absences is one of the common Actions/Tasks which is used by Line managers, HR, and Employees to view the existing absences. With the new feature in 23C the new Existing Absences page lets you experience Redwood’s high-fidelity interactions and enhances the view in a better and efficient way for Employee self-service, HR Self-service, and Manager self-service.
23C Release Solution – In 23 C The Existing Absences page was re-created using the Redwood toolset, Oracle Visual Builder Studio, to improve the user experience by providing the same consistent functionality across Redwood pages. We need to enable the Profile option – ORA_ANC_EXISTING_ABSENCES_VBCS_UI_ENABLED to access the Redwood page. Just in case you have Guided Journey’s configured you will need to reconfigure them if you are using the new Redwood page.
