This month, we’re discussing Technical Innovation, Oracle Financials and West Ham United with our Architecture and Innovation Practice Lead, Andy Stamp!
Tell me about your role within Namos.
I head up our newly formed Architecture and Innovations practice.
In the Architecture Practice, we provide support to the entire Oracle cycle from presales to designing, testing, and delivering the architecture required to ensure that a project is successful.
Innovation is an exciting new option for Namos, where the objective is to identify areas in which we can improve our practice, through technology and innovation. It’s something that is in its infancy, and we are still developing the working model, but it is very cutting edge and exciting. Some of the ideas in the pipeline are real gamechangers!
Can you talk me through your previous experience?
This is my second time around at Namos! I was employee number 14 and I helped win and deliver the very first cloud projects that Namos won.
After that, I joined a global SCM partner and was responsible for the Oracle Financials arena in EMEA but due to the pandemic, the role became far more global.
Due to a personal experience I wanted to return to a UK based company and be part of a tangible team, so after a quick call to Richard Eltham asking for a reference, which completely backfired (!) I returned to Namos.
Prior to working for Namos, I worked for Deloitte and Oracle. I was at Oracle for 17 years, and I was lucky to have experience of Oracle Fusion from Version 1 as part of the Fusion team, so I have been working on Oracle Fusion for over 11 years.
Prior to that I was a Finance Director/CFO working in the manufacturing and technology sectors.
What led you to join Namos?
I have known Richard Eltham and Chris Mason for many years, and not only do I know Namos as an organisation, but I also know many of the people who work there. For me, it was like returning to a warm blanket.
What do you love about working for Namos?
As an analogy, Namos is like a football team and (Chris will hate me for this!) but if you take Tottenham Hotspur, they have a couple of stars in Son and Kane but rarely all perform at the same time.
I support West Ham who really don’t have any superstars, but they all have great comradery, teamwork, motivation, and they work as a team. That’s the Namos world that I see daily.
That’s not to say there are no stars as there are, but they all work for each other.
It’s also the friends I have and the new friends I have made, especially the guys I recruited 4 years ago. Watching them grow into functional leads or accomplished consultants is very satisfying.
Talk me through the typical roles you recruit for within your team.
The team is in its infancy, but we have a target to recruit an Enterprise Architect, Solution Architect and a Technical Architect.
These Consultants will have teams working under them, so there will be plenty of opportunities to learn and grow for talented individuals.
My team essentially consists of Techno Functional Consultants, who enjoy understanding what goes on under the bonnet!
Having a base level of technical skills can open doors and we are always looking for good candidates.
What qualities would make someone a good fit for your team?
My team members need to be excited by tech, happy digging into the details but also have the aerial view of a problem. The biggest qualifications are probably a smile on their faces and a willingness to learn.
Which aspects of your work are you most passionate about?
Personally, I joined Consulting to travel and meet people. I have been lucky to work on multiple sites experiencing multiple cultures over the last few years. Milan was always a memorable implementation, travelling on a tram to and from the office. Johannesburg and Cape town were an experience! Hyderabad has the edge as it had my favourite food.
Consulting pre covid was an experience and I look forward to getting back to that scenario.
What does the future look like for your team?
Very positive along with the rest of Namos. The market is buoyant, and Namos is stretching its wings to open new offices and therefore new opportunities. It’s pretty much the Oracle place to be.
What advice would you give to candidates starting out in the Oracle world?
Enjoy every minute of it!
It’s a journey and a big family. I was lucky enough to work for Oracle and enjoyed every minute of it. I still have many friends in Oracle that I speak to on a regular basis, and I left in 2015.
Get a good base behind you and learn a subject area, that gives you a solid base to expand.
Join us again next month, when we’ll be delving into the busy world of Business Development with our Sales Director, Matt Hallett!
